August 23, 2012 – Senator Ted Erickson (R-26) said that he will not seek re-election when his current term in the state Senate ends next year. In Chester County, Erickson represents Willistown and Easttown Townships.
“I’m grateful to the residents of the 26th Senatorial District for the confidence and trust that they placed in me by electing me to the Senate during my tenure, and I thank them for that trust,” Senator Erickson said. “It has been an honor and a privilege to represent them in the Senate.”
Senator Erickson currently serves as Majority Policy Chairman, a leadership position in which he is responsible for gathering the information necessary to determine the impact of policy decisions being made by the Senate. He also serves on the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, the Local Government Commission, and the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority.
First elected to the Senate in 2001, Senator Erickson led efforts to enact the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act and to create the Community-Based Health Care Program. He was also instrumental in passing laws to require that state regulations be based on sound science, to reduce the frequency of healthcare-associated infections, and to help address flooding problems by authorizing stormwater management authorities. He played a key role in the development and passage of Pennsylvania’s Taxpayer Relief Act of 2006.
Senator Erickson previously served as Executive Director of Delaware County, a member of Delaware County Council, Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Chief Administrative Officer of Upper Darby Township, and Director of Public Health in Upper Darby. Prior to his government service, Senator Erickson was a tenured Assistant Professor of Biology at Hamilton College, teaching microbiology, biochemistry and general biology. Senator Erickson also taught at Drexel University and East Stroudsburg State College.
Senator Erickson and his wife, Katherine, live in Newtown Square and have a son, Jonathan.
