Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)

According to the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, FDA (Food and Drug Administration) needs to hear input from the farmers, processors and others affected by the new rules. Such comments will directly shape the final rules and are critical to ensuring that the final rules work for small and mid-sized farmers, sustainable and organic growers, value-added businesses, and conservation systems.

Everyone has a role to play keeping our food safe from field to fork!

The best way to comment on the proposed rules is through the government website: www.regulations.gov, which hosts the proposed rules for viewing and a form the public can use to submit comments for consideration. Click on the appropriate commenting page – either the Produce Rule (FDA-2011-N-0921) or the Preventive Controls Rule (FDA-2011-N-0920). Before doing that, you may want to check out FSMA Overview for guidance on what to say and some great tips to work your way through the challenge of the comment submission process!
